Average market prices for an economy car (low season to high season), indicative only: they vary with the season, the model and how early you book. This is not the price paid, just a benchmark to compare.
If you book through this link, FirstHand earns a commission from the merchant, at no extra cost to you. That is what funds the on-the-ground checks.
Do you actually need a car in Corsica?
Essential. Winding mountain roads, a single train line (Ajaccio-Bastia-Calvi), rare buses off the main routes: the finest parts of Corsica are not served by public transport.
When NOT to rent here
Honestly, few cases: if you stay in Ajaccio or Bastia without moving, the centre is walkable. But as soon as you want to see the island (Bonifacio, Cap Corse, the calanques), a car is necessary.
Where you pick up the car
→ Desk right at AJA airport
- 01At Ajaccio (AJA) and Bastia (BIA) airports, the big agencies' desks are in the terminal, open according to flight arrivals.
- 02No general meet & greet or documented shuttle: pickup and return happen on site.
- 03Film the car on every side and insist on a signed joint condition report with the agent present: in Corsica, the damage billed at return is the number-one complaint.
The fuel trap
Dominant policy: full-to-full, or “same level at return”. Avoid the tank prepaid and returned empty, billed above pump price. Note the level at the start.
At the counter: what they will push
To refuse politely
- The extra insurance imposed at the counter as the priciest option (a Sixt Ajaccio account cites 277 €) if you are already covered.
- Any departure without a signed joint condition report.
To insist on
- A signed condition report noting every existing mark, photos or video to back it, agent present.
- The same video of every side at return, before handing back the keys.
What my analysis reveals
I have not yet rented a car in Corsica myself: this page is an analysis, not a field report. It cross-checks forums (Routard, TripAdvisor) and the platform pages.
Unlike the Canaries, Corsica has no reliable true “zero deposit”, and Localrent has no page there. Excess and hold are the rule, and DiscoverCars' “Full Coverage” reimburses the excess afterwards but does not spare you the deposit blocked at the counter. I say so plainly, to avoid selling you a false promise.
The dominant scam is billing non-existent or exaggerated damage at return, the hold debited afterwards: forums cite cases of several hundred euros at the Ajaccio, Bastia and Figari airports. The only fix that holds: dated photos and video at pickup AND return, a signed joint condition report with the agent present, and cover bought online rather than at the counter.
The anxious questions (the real ones)
+Can you rent without a deposit in Corsica?
Honestly, no: Corsica has no reliable true “zero deposit”, and DiscoverCars' “Full Coverage” reimburses the excess but does not lift the counter hold. Expect a blocked deposit, and take the cover online.
+What is the most common scam in Corsica?
Non-existent or exaggerated damage billed at return, the hold debited afterwards. Insist on a signed joint condition report, and film every side of the car at pickup and return.

An agency that is not in this table?
Thinking of booking elsewhere and wondering if it is safe? Give me the agency name and the city: I will tell you straight what I know, and add it to the file if it earns its place.
