⏲ Figures collected on 12 December 2025
Average market prices for an economy car (low season to high season), indicative only: they vary with the season, the model and how early you book. This is not the price paid, just a benchmark to compare.
If you book through this link, FirstHand earns a commission from the merchant, at no extra cost to you. That is what funds the on-the-ground checks.
The ultra-budget option (with a deposit): Samicar via DiscoverCars
If you watch your budget and hold a real credit card, go through DiscoverCars and sort by agency rating: aim for locals like Samicar or DiRent. The headline prices are lower, but expect 600 to 1,000 € blocked on your account.
Do you actually need a car in Casablanca?
Only to escape Casablanca. Do not rent to visit the city itself, it is a burden. Take one if, and only if, CMN is your launchpad for the rest of Morocco (Rabat, El Jadida, Marrakesh via the A7).
When NOT to rent here
If you stay in the dense centre (Maârif, Gauthier, the Corniche): driving in Casa is a jungle, traffic is constant and parking is a miracle. In town I took the tram (clean, cheap) and the red petits taxis, meter on (20-30 MAD a ride). The car is only for heading straight out on a road trip.
Where you pick up the car
→ Meet & greet at CMN airport, the agent waits with a sign
- 01Mohammed V airport (CMN) is known for its customs: budget a full hour easily.
- 02Once your bags are collected, you come out at the public arrivals meeting point: the agent waits there, no shuttle to an industrial estate.
- 03The car is parked right across, contract filled on his tablet: it is all settled on the spot.
The fuel trap
“Full to full” or “same to same” depending on the fleet. In my case the tank was half full. The golden rule in Casa: shoot an HD video of the dashboard the moment you turn the key, to lock the mileage and fuel level.
At the counter: what they will push
To refuse politely
- The international desks' ~250 MAD/day “Club Zero” when you already have excess coverage
- Any debit-card deposit “refused” that pushes you toward their insurance
To insist on
- An HD dashboard video (mileage + fuel) at start-up
- A wheel-by-wheel condition report (mine already had a scuffed rim)
What I experienced
Walking past the terminal's Goldcar desks, I saw two French families mid-argument with the agents over a debit card refused for the deposit. I smiled and walked straight to the lot to grab my keys, without handing over my card.
The moment I hit the motorway I understood why the included full coverage was essential: lane changes without indicators are the norm. Driving with no deposit blocked lets you handle that traffic without sweating.
The anxious questions (the real ones)
+Which agency should you avoid at Casablanca airport?
The terminal's international desks like Goldcar/InterRent: deposit up to 15,000 MAD, a ~250 MAD/day “Club Zero” insurance and constant pressure. I saw two families stuck over a refused debit card.
+Can you rent without a deposit in Casablanca?
Yes, via Localrent's no-deposit filter (I took MarHire): 0 MAD blocked, all included, meet & greet at arrivals without going through the terminal desks.
+Is driving hard in Casablanca?
In the city, yes, constant traffic, lane changes without indicators. Keep the car for road trips (A7 to Marrakesh, Rabat, El Jadida) and take the tram plus red petits taxis downtown.
An agency that is not in this table?
Thinking of booking elsewhere and wondering if it is safe? Give me the agency name and the city: I will tell you straight what I know, and add it to the file if it earns its place.
